Connect, Learn and Grow
For generations, the Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library has played an important role in Ho-Ho-Kus. Yet its aging building and hilltop location place it somewhat apart from the everyday activity of the town and can make access difficult for many residents. The proposed new Library offers an opportunity to bring that important community resource into the heart of Ho-Ho-Kus, where it can become a more visible, accessible and natural part of daily life. It would be a place for reading and discovery, but also for neighbors to meet, ideas to be shared and people of all ages to stay connected to their community. The Ho-Ho-Kus Community Room would deepen that role by providing a dedicated place for meetings, programs, presentations and community activities, with independent access that would allow the space to be used even when the Library itself is closed. At its heart, the opportunity is simple: to bring the Library closer to the people it serves and create a place where learning, connection and community can come together.

The Ho-Ho-Kus Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established on June 23, 2026, to lead the private fundraising effort in support of the proposed new Ho-Ho-Kus Public Library.

Public funding keeps library’s operating, but it often isn't enough to meet the growing needs of a modern community. Private support makes it possible to invest in projects that public budgets alone cannot cover—including the construction of a new library, expanded collections, updated technology, flexible community spaces, children's and adult’s programming, and other improvements that enrich the lives of residents.

The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library has served Ho-Ho-Kus for decades and remains an important and much-loved part of the community. At the same time, the building is aging and presents physical and accessibility limitations that are difficult to overcome. Its hilltop location can make access challenging for many residents, with more than 40 steps from street level to the Library entrance, and places the Library somewhat apart from the natural flow of activity in the center of town.
The proposed new Library would build on everything the current Library already does well, while providing a more accessible and flexible setting for Library services and a dedicated Community Room for residents.
-
The proposed location would place the Library in the heart of Ho-Ho-Kus, convenient to key places where our community gathers: the business district, Town Green, Memorial Park and Borough Hall. Together, they create a connected center of community life that is convenient and accessible to all.
-
The Borough has authorized up to $2.95 million in bonding for the proposed project. The anticipated overall project cost exceeds the authorized bond amount, requiring additional funding for construction as well as furnishings, fixtures and equipment (FF&E), professional services, financing costs and other project-related expenses.
The Mayor & Council have been mindful of the potential burden on taxpayers and do not want the project to move forward in a way that places an undue financial burden on the community. For that reason, the success of the Foundation’s fundraising effort will be pivotal to determining whether, and how, the proposed new Library can move forward in a financially responsible way.

The Ho-Ho-Kus Library Foundation will upload pictures and news about this project regularly. Please note: The current architectural design reflects the plan for the proposed new Library and is intended to create a traditional civic building that complements the character of Ho-Ho-Kus and the architectural style of the Municipal Building. At this time, the renderings provide a visual representation of that design. Exterior materials, finishes, colors and other cosmetic details continue to be refined as planning progresses. Stay tuned!
Giving and Donor Recognition:
The Foundation’s goal is to raise up to $5 million in private support for the proposed new Library, and gifts at every level can play an important role in that effort. Potential giving opportunities include transformational and major gifts, naming opportunities associated with the proposed Library and Ho-Ho-Kus Community Room, recognition associated with particular spaces or features, and permanent donor recognition.
A transformational gift may provide naming recognition for the Library itself, while a major gift may provide naming recognition for the Ho-Ho-Kus Community Room.
